Breeding
Plan a breeding season
Use the Season planner to rank your pairings, choose the matings for a season, see what they would mean for the next generation, and save the plan.
The Season planner works on a whole season at once. You rank the possible pairings in your program, choose the ones you intend to make, and see the effect on the next generation’s inbreeding and carrier load before you commit.
Rank and choose
- Select More, then Season planner under More breeding tools.
- Pick one of the Presets, such as Avoid carriers or Low COI, or set the
options yourself:
- Species and, if you like, Breed.
- Candidate pool. Choose My program to plan with your own animals.
- Max offspring COI %, and how much Health weight, Diversity weight, and Color weight count.
- Avoid at-risk pairings, which leaves out any pair with a chance of affected offspring for a condition both animals were tested for.
- Select Rank pairings.
- Tick the pairings you plan to make this season.
See the consequences
- Project season shows the next generation for the pairings you ticked: the Current mean COI, the Projected offspring COI, the change, and the Carrier load for each tested condition.
- Compare vs full plan compares your choice with making every ranked pairing. It works once you’ve left at least one pairing out.
- Project trajectory looks further ahead, up to 10 generations. Tick Exact pedigree simulation (slower) for a slower, more detailed projection.
The planner reports untested conditions instead of guessing them, and its projections are for planning only.
Save the plan
Name the season, such as Spring 2027, and select Save plan. It appears under Saved season plans. Once a plan is saved, the Decision and outcome journal lets you write down what you decided and why, how confident you are, and what would change your mind, then select Record decision.
What the figures can see
- Inbreeding can only count the shared ancestors on record. You can’t add an animal’s parents in the app yet, so for animals you added yourself the inbreeding figures are usually 0%. That means no shared ancestor on record, not that the animals are unrelated.
- Carrier load comes from the lab carrier results on record. Our guides explain the inbreeding coefficient and recessive-risk pairing.
