Breeding

Check a pairing for carrier risk

Use the pairing simulator to see the chance of clear, carrier, and affected offspring for a sire and dam, and their offspring's inbreeding.

Client Pro Checked against the app on

The pairing simulator shows what a planned mating means for each condition both animals have been tested for, and how inbred the offspring would be.

Before you start

  • You need Client Pro.
  • Both animals need to be in your account.
  • The check uses the lab carrier results on record for both animals. Results from reports you upload yourself stay on the record, but using them in this check is planned, not available yet.

Run a check

  1. Select More, then Pairing simulator under More breeding tools.
  2. Choose the Sire and the Dam.
  3. Select Simulate pairing.

Read the result

  • Offspring inbreeding (COI) is worked out from the pedigrees on record, with the shared ancestors behind the number. It can only count ancestors AnimalTrace has on record. You can’t add an animal’s parents in the app yet, so for animals you added yourself it usually reads 0%. That means no shared ancestor on record, not that the sire and dam are unrelated.
  • Health outcomes lists each condition with the sire’s and dam’s results and the chance of clear, carrier, and affected offspring.
  • Could not be evaluated lists the conditions that are missing a result on one side. A missing result is never treated as clear.
  • If neither animal has a usable lab carrier result, the page says there are no health outcomes to show.

A clear result only covers the variant the lab tested for. Our guides explain how to read a genetic test result, recessive-risk pairing, and the inbreeding coefficient.
