A LIMS with real depth, end to end.
AnimalTrace runs the operational path from animal and case intake through accessioning, result import, review, release, reporting, and notification. Every step is explicit and audited.
The workflow
One governed path, intake to verified report.
Lab work runs as explicit, audited workflows in clean, neutral lab language instead of scattered status fields. Each step preserves what came before.
- 1
Animal & case intake
Neutral lab language
- 2
Sample accessioning
Barcodes, chain of custody
- 3
Result import
Integration-first; files as fallback
- 4
Normalize & validate
Canonical loci; fail closed
- 5
Review & approve
QC flags, coverage, integrity
- 6
Release & report
Versioned released facts
- 7
Verify & notify
Content-hash verification
Modules
The surfaces that make up the system.
Animals, cases & samples
Durable animal records, test requests, and accessioned samples with chain of custody.
Genetics reference governance
Canonical loci, allele definitions, versioned rule sets and reference panels.
Results lifecycle
Working results separated from released facts, with review, approval, and release workflows.
Reports & verification
Released facts become reports with content-hash snapshots that can be independently verified.
Search
Discover animals, cases, and released facts with saved filters and watches over governed data.
Match
A capability-driven genetic comparison engine for compatibility, similarity, relationship, and planning.
Access & audit
Scoped organization access, consent gating, and an append-only audit trail.
Organization portal
A scoped workspace where clinics, labs, registries, and partners manage animals, create cases, track samples, and access reports.
Admin console
The internal control plane for lab, support, genetics, and operations staff, from queues to releases to audit.
Integrations & webhooks
Inbound submissions and signed outbound webhook deliveries with durable retry state.
Logistics & kits
Kit products, inventory, shipments, and kit-to-sample accession handoff.
Architecture
Animal-first, governed, and built to be extended.
Animal-first generic core
Built from first principles for animal DNA labs. Not a rewrite of an existing system, and not built around one species.
Species by configuration
Species capabilities drive UI, Search, Match, reports, and validation. A new species is configuration, not a fork or a new module.
Governed vs released facts
Raw payloads, normalized values, and released facts are distinct layers. Released facts are versioned snapshots that feed reports, Search, and Match.
Integration-first ingestion
Structured submissions, partner integrations, instrument feeds, and webhooks are the core path; files are a fallback channel, not the design center.
The genetics core is generic by design. Color, health, ancestry, parentage, and relationship features are modeled as configurable capability groups, so the platform grows into new species and new domains without flattening the depth any one of them needs.
